Avoiding Mistakes with “Make” and “Do”

By Marianne Raynaud

If I do badly, will you do your best?

If I can’t answer, will you do the test?

If I do the housework, will you do the dishes?

If I do the shopping, will you make your wishes?

........................................

If I do the wrong thing, and feel very sad,

Will you do it right, so I won’t feel bad?

If I do the washing, will you fetch the clothes?

If I make a joke, will you rub your nose?

........................................

If I do a dance and sing you a song,

Will you do a trip and take me along?

If you do a job and then make a mess,

Should I do you a favor or just make a guess?

........................................

If I make a plan and they make a call,

Will you make dinner and feed us all,

If I make some money and then make a request,

Will you make a survey and decide what is best?

........................................

If I do well and win the top prize,

Will you make a speech and say something nice?

If I make a fool of myself and of you,

Will you make amends for yourself and me too?

........................................

These questions, they turn in my head all the time,

As I keep on trying to get them to rhyme

If you can make do with the lines I create,

You’ll make no mistakes with “do” or with “make”!

........................................
