QT-ESL Podcasts - An Introduction
The complete list of QualityTime-ESL Podcasts
Script of the recording:
Hi there, I am Marianne Raynaud from QualityTime-ESL. These podcasts are intended to help learners “speak” English correctly. I propose oral exercises where learners are asked to repeat, transform or complete sentences and expressions. Of course it is much easier to do these exercises in a written form than to do them orally, but the idea here is simply to “speak” the answers instead of writing them.
The reason behind these podcasts
The reason behind these exercises is simple. During my career I have met so many people, both young and old, who have studied English for many years and who still cannot speak the language. Often they can decipher a text and even translate it, but they are not capable of communicating orally. I mean they have difficulty understanding what other people say, and they cannot respond correctly in real-time.
Mastering grammar points completely
Some of my exercises—particularly the first ones—may seem very easy, but the idea is to master completely each grammar point before going on to the next one. You will always have difficulties making yourself understood if you are not capable of using some very basic verbs in the right tenses. And knowing how to formulate oral questions correctly is essential, as is the proper use of prepositions or postpositions.
How to “speak” English
When people ask me what they should do to learn to “speak” English, I always tell them to work on oral exercises. I suggest that learners should start with some of the oral “self-tests” that I have produced to evaluate their level in spoken English. Then they can choose the podcasts that are best suited to their needs.
If you visit our website QualityTime-ESL, you will find the scripts of these podcasts and in some cases even worksheets. Many of these scripts and worksheets are offered free of charge, and others are to be found in the store for a minimal fee.
I welcome comments and suggestions from my listeners, and I hope you all benefit from the work I do.
That’s all for now, and I do hope you try some of the lessons in this, the QualityTime-ESL grammar series. Bye for now, and don’t forget to keep smiling.
P.S. If you are interested in my philosophy of teaching and wish to get a lot of effective exercises have a look at QualityTime-ESL: The Digital Resource Book available in our store. There is also a lighter downloadable version of QualityTime-ESL: The Digital Resource Book, which already contains many of our podcast scripts and hundreds of other DOC files to help teachers elaborate an effective program.
